Pranayama Methods
Prerequisite: Breathing Awareness class, or instructor permission
Now that you have cultivated proficiency with steady inhalations and exhalations, let’s explore a variety of pranayama methods. We will continue to deepen our relationship to breath and being with a gentle approach to Kumbhakas (retentions), Vilomas (interrupted breathing), Surya & Chandra Bhedanas (sun & moon passes) and Nadhi Sodhana (alternate nostril breathing). Students will have weekly pranayama practice and reading homework. |

Teaching Practice Class
Prerequisite: Sequencing class and must be enrolled in the ASP teacher training program
The Teaching Practice Class will offer students an opportunity to practice teaching to a class of their peers. Each class a student will make a presentation from a pre-assigned theme and then receive feedback from their classmates. This is your time to refine your skills in sequencing, verbal communication, time management, student management, hands-on adjustments and more. |

Intro to Assisting
Prerequisite: Must be enrolled in the ASP teacher training program.
Intro to Assisting will provide the aspiring teacher with ample exploration of manual adjusting, sychronizing with the main teacher, facilitating class flow, discerning where and how to help. |

BKS Iyengar
We'll read Tree of Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar, supplemented with videos of Mr. Iyengar, to gain a greater understanding of Iyengar and his influence on current yoga practices. Students within the ASP teacher training program will have written assignments. Others outside of the program are welcome and encouraged to attend also, though homework will not be required. Come and gain a greater appreciation of Mr. Iyengar's way of working in and influence of the world of yoga. |

Teaching of Standing Poses
Prerequisite: Practice of Standing Poses or instructor permission
Together we will explore a variety of considerations when presenting the Standing Poses to students. Topics will include appropriate sequencing, use of props, variations of poses, preparations for poses, alternatives to poses, and how to choose which aspects of the pose to emphasize during any given class. |
